Former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has launched a fresh attack on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing it as one beset by “dangerous scandals” following the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
In a strongly worded statement, Atiku questioned the Federal Government’s explanation of the PFIPC controversy, arguing that it was difficult to accept claims that a single individual could allegedly create, operate, and project what appeared to be a government agency without the knowledge or involvement of public institutions.
The former vice president called on President Tinubu to authorize an independent and transparent investigation into the matter, insisting that only a credible probe can uncover the facts and reassure Nigerians. He warned that failing to investigate the allegations could further erode public confidence in government institutions.
The Presidency, however, has firmly denied any connection to the PFIPC, maintaining that the council is not a recognised agency of the Federal Government. It also stated that the individual who presented himself as the council’s Director-General acted without authorization and is currently facing criminal charges related to alleged forgery and impersonation.
The exchange has added a new dimension to the political debate over accountability and transparency in government, with opposition figures demanding answers while the Presidency continues to reject any suggestion of official involvement.
As the controversy unfolds, public attention remains fixed on whether an independent investigation will be initiated to resolve the conflicting claims and establish the facts surrounding the PFIPC saga.
No court has found the Tinubu administration liable in relation to the allegations, and the claims made by Atiku remain allegations that have not been judicially established.
