Suspected terrorists have struck again in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing two residents during a violent attack that has thrown the community into renewed fear and uncertainty.
The incident occurred in Oreke community on Monday night when heavily armed gunmen invaded the area, firing shots and causing panic among residents. The victims, believed to be young men, were reportedly attacked at close range before the assailants fled the scene.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the community under the cover of darkness, leaving residents helpless as the deadly assault unfolded. The sudden attack forced many families to abandon their homes and seek refuge in nearby towns for fear of further violence.
The latest killings come amid worsening insecurity in parts of Kwara State, particularly in Ifelodun Local Government Area, which has witnessed repeated attacks by armed groups in recent months. Communities in the area have suffered killings, abductions and destruction of property despite assurances of increased security presence.
Residents expressed frustration and fear, stating that normal life has become increasingly difficult as farmers are unable to access their farmlands and businesses remain closed due to safety concerns. Some locals alleged slow response from security agencies to distress calls and urged the government to urgently reinforce security in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued by the Kwara State Police Command and no arrests had been announced. However, security operatives were said to have been deployed to restore calm and prevent further attacks.
The incident has again raised concerns about the spread of violent attacks across parts of North Central Nigeria, with residents calling on state and federal authorities to take decisive action to protect lives and property and prevent further loss of life.
