Minister of Works and former Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has dismissed renewed calls for Biafra agitation, insisting that the Igbo are no longer marginalised in Nigeria.
Speaking during an inspection of ongoing federal infrastructure projects in the South-East, Umahi said the conditions that once fuelled separatist agitations have significantly changed. According to him, the region is now enjoying increased federal presence, inclusion and development.
Umahi acknowledged that the South-East experienced neglect in previous administrations, a situation he said contributed to feelings of alienation among the people. However, he stressed that under the current administration, the narrative has shifted, with the region now fully integrated into national governance and development efforts.
He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as deliberate steps to ensure fairness, equity and infrastructure growth across the country, including the South-East. Umahi added that the level of attention and investment currently being directed at the region proves that the Igbo are an integral part of Nigeria’s future.
Calling for unity and constructive engagement, the minister urged youths and political leaders in the South-East to focus on development rather than separatist rhetoric. He emphasised that dialogue, cooperation and participation within the Nigerian system remain the most effective path to lasting progress and prosperity for the Igbo people.
