Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has strongly denounced the heinous and senseless killing of four promising young individuals in Abacheke Community, Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State. Gunmen, disguised in military attire, carried out the attack, prompting the deployment of the Command’s Special Tactical Squad in collaboration with other security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for this vile act of violence.
According to ASP Henry Okoye, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, the assailants descended on Abacheke Community on the evening of March 8, 2024, riding motorcycles and indiscriminately firing at residents, resulting in serious injuries to five individuals.
In a rapid response, the Area Commander overseeing Ohaji Egbema, along with additional tactical teams, swiftly mobilized to the scene. The victims were promptly transported to the hospital, where four were tragically pronounced dead upon arrival, while one is currently undergoing medical treatment. A rigorous operation is currently underway in the area.
While peace has been restored to the community, an exhaustive investigation is underway to apprehend the criminals responsible for this despicable act and ensure they face the full force of the law.
The Command urges the public, particularly residents of Ohaji/Egbema, to come forward with any pertinent information that may aid in the investigation. CP Danjuma extends his condolences to the families and friends of the deceased and pledges unwavering commitment to apprehending and prosecuting the perpetrators.
It is worth noting that Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State has historically been peaceful, making the incident raise suspicions of sabotage against the community through neighboring states.
