…Government Expands Educational Support for Indigenes Across Students and Teachers Categories

The Enugu State Government has announced the opening of applications for the 2025 Enugu State Scholarship Programme aimed at supporting deserving indigenes in their pursuit of higher education.
The initiative, approved by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, is being implemented through the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board under the supervision of the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Professor Ndubueze L. Mbah.
According to the Board, the scholarship scheme will provide opportunities for undergraduates, teachers, and postgraduate students among the indigenes in various institutions across Nigeria.
A total of 500 slots have been designated for undergraduate students in their 100 and 200 levels in recognised tertiary institutions. In addition, 1,000 slots have been reserved for indigenous teachers employed in Enugu State Government schools who wish to obtain master’s degrees. Successful teacher applicants will be required to serve in the state’s school system for at least ten years after completing their studies.
Another 100 slots have been allocated for postgraduate students pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees in Nigerian universities.
To be eligible, applicants must be confirmed indigenes of Enugu State and must hold valid admission into an undergraduate or postgraduate programme for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Applicants are required to upload the following documents in a single PDF file not exceeding 2MB: Local Government Area of Origin Identification Letter, Admission Letter, Letter of Acceptance, Attestation Letter from their Traditional Ruler, Passport Photograph, and for teachers, a valid Employment Letter.
Incomplete applications or submissions lacking the required documents will not be considered.
Interested candidates are to complete their applications online by visiting https://apply.esselb.en.gov.ng and selecting only one category: Undergraduate, Teachers, or Postgraduate Scholarship.
The application window will open on Thursday, 14 November 2025, and close at 12.00 a.m. on 28 November 2025 for undergraduate and postgraduate applicants, while applications for the Teachers Scholarship will close on 8 December 2025.
The selection process will include an online Computer Based Test (CBT), allowing candidates to participate from any location with a reliable internet connection. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted for the examination.
The Board has also encouraged visually impaired students and students with disabilities in 100 and 200 levels to apply, reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive education and equal opportunities for all indigenes.

Professor Ndubueze L. Mbah, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, explained that the scholarship programme is part of Governor Mbah’s broader vision to enhance access to quality education and develop human capital among indigenes across Enugu State.
He noted that the Governor remains committed to ensuring that no deserving indigene is deprived of educational opportunities due to financial limitations. He described education as the foundation for sustainable development and the driving force behind the state’s progress.
The Enugu State Scholarship Programme reflects the government’s resolve to nurture a generation of educated, skilled, and empowered indigenes capable of contributing to the state’s growth and transformation.
