Former Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu’s widow, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has tied the knot with Professor Wole Akeredolu, her late husband’s younger brother, following the customs of the Owo Kingdom in Ondo State. This marriage, which comes a few months after her husband’s burial, solidifies her position within the family and ensures support for her four children.
According to Owo tradition, widows are expected to remain within the husband’s family, and marrying a living member of the family is customary. Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu’s union with her late husband’s brother reaffirms her status as a member of the family. The formal handing over of Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu to Professor Wole Akeredolu took place in Ezi-Obodo, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, symbolizing her new chapter as a bride.
